PhD Alumni Posts: 773 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Arizona | Iris Rose Paul, my friends! I identify with the perplexities you mention sunshine...for me..I apparently was logged in all night as I slumbered...what seems to happen is that I have to log on twice most often in order to get in, then I will forger and only log off once, so I appear to still be on. Not sure if it is a quirk with my operating system, or these boards or a combo of the 2...maybe the same is happening to you in some fashion?

Faculty Posts: 52 ![]() ![]() Location: Worldwide | The Board is open to the public. The student area is restricted to enrolled students. We have been blessed so far and have not been spammed or given a hard time from anyone trying to sell their porn or cigarettes. The Administrators and Moderators do not disallow people from registering because of their email addresses, it is the actual posts that are watched over. I do not know why your sign on page is not there, nor why you seem to be logged in.

Elite Veteran Posts: 750 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if the board is open to the public, and you have the means to delete.and so much more,if a member of the public should come onto your site, and you are seen welcoming!new users, under such obviously descriptive names, does it not therefore give the impression, that you as a body, are wlcoming, and advocating names as suggestive as porn for free. Therefore, giving the public cause for concern, that this might not be such a spiritual site,if as stated, the aforementioned, where welcomed!!!!!

PhD Alumni Posts: 1882 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: NE Ohio | Ok, to answer why one doesn't always have to log in again: it's because of the memory in each computer. It logs a cookie, which holds the data and remembers that you like this page and skips the extra step to have to log you in. It's also part of the cache memory. If you want to see your sign in page again, just delete all your cookies, and clear your cache. I assure you, you will have to re-sign in. As far as porn being posted..... that is what us mods do. We look for anything unapropriate and get rid of it, if it's hurtful, or spam. Then we have them blocked by their IP. this doesn't mean they cannot try to come back from a different pc. But, it helps make it a pain in the rear, if they go to the extremes of having to advertise their crap here. IP's are only blocked for extreme cases. i.e. drug sales, porn, direct blunt advertising with no interaction, etc. I hope this post is helpful..... Blessings~

Faculty Posts: 52 ![]() ![]() Location: Worldwide | The system is automated. Thousands and thousands of people are registered for the Discussion Board, although most never post. UMS does not have the time or staff to monitor every registration for the Public area, so it is an automated feature. If this becomes a problem, we will have to do something. Perhaps people who are involved in businesses that one might consider to be unspiritual, also have metaphysical and spiritual interests, and might visit this site for reasons other than trying to sell their wares?

Expert Posts: 2118 ![]() ![]() Location: The Heart of Space | Suuuuunnnnnnyyyyyyy: I told you and told everyone that things are going on! It is unavoidable! This is not private.....NOTHING on the Internet is private. No matter how well UMS protects their servers, it takes just one of us to connect and do something very innocently that may cause silly, minor, major or massive problems. Sun, I know these things to be true....I work for a U that has many degree programs in Computer Science, Information Technology and, now, Homeland Security. You Brits send your guys to our school to take our security programmes. The students try to hack our systems constantly....just to say that they could or did. We have shields probably as good as our (USA) federal government, yet I still get emails advising me to 1) pick up my 135.6 millions dollars as a partner to someone in Kenya, South Africa, etc. 2) get a low cost mortgage at --0.07 percent financing, which means the lender will actually pay me money, 3) grow a full head of rich luxuriant hair,in my choice of color...even though I am male pattern bald and look like Friar Tuck., 4) grow another part of my anatomy to a grotesque size, of which I would not be interested in doing so for logistical reasons; and 5) viewing all sorts of women, men, animals and inanimate objects in all sorts of funtastic positions all for FREE! My point is not to shock, but to let you know that even the most well protected systems, are gonna get garbage....and it is just that, garbage! There is a little icon on the screen of my computer...it is a trash can.....and the garbage goes in! Just as I cannot stop people from throwing trash down on the street, or throwing their ciggie butts on the ground...which really infuriates me, as I am a former smoker....and never threw a butt down on someones planter.....you will get unwanted messages that you cannot stop. The "delete" key is the perfect thing! Peace and Love, Marty, and Luckylee, aka LuckyPop; Poppyhead, aka CharmPop, and Sissygirl, aka Sissy,my little adopted owl cat.

PhD Alumni Posts: 4414 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: United Kingdom | Okay okay, just so that there is no more confusion here, A Guide for the Perplexed, was a mediaeval Hasidic (mystical Jewish) text written by someone who I cannot bring to mind as i type this, whilst, A Guide for the Perplexed, same title, was written in the 1970s (possibly 80s, no stones please) by, E F Schumacher, about ecological politics (he also wrote, Small is Beautiful). And of longer provenance, we need to go back to Socrates, who acknowledged his lack of knowledge when told by the Delphic Oracle that he was the Wisest Man in the World (for further discussion on this please refer to the Uncertain thread) As for me, I know Nothing. Blessed Be

Please help and advise ? Thanks & also the reference to donations & pocket, since I work for a charity, would be very helpful also for me to know more about. PhD Alumni Posts: 4414 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: United Kingdom | By the way, the Jewish Guide was written in the 12th Century by Maimonedes, a Jewish scholar and doctor of great repute who had to practice his faith in secret because of persecution. Blessings on his spirit and memory, and those of similar ilk Namaste
