I am new to the forum. I was looking at the forum and it seems that only a handful of students use it. What is your experience with the forum? Thanks.

Hello and welcome Purple Heart

When I was studying the UMS materials I never went on the Board, never seemed to prioritise the time; it was only after I gave it more attention; though we are all students and always will be, I think I know less now than I ever did!

Hope you enoy the dialogues and debates here; been a bit quiet lately, but Aquarius, Disa, Jill and Marty are nicely around and sometimes Z and O drop in too

All the best to you and good luck in your studies

Paul

Welcome in our midst, dear Purple Heart. I agree with Paul, we are all students at the Great University of Life, hopefully learning something new with each passing day.

Beautiful Things

Knowing that beautiful things are right and true,
And that beautiful actions please God,
Helps wise ones to develop their inward sense of
What is right, true and beautiful.

The highest wisdom is to trust
One’s intuition and to follow its guidance,
For the answer to the last appeal of what is right or wrong
Lies within everybody’s own heart.
So, trust thyself.

Hello Aquarius

Reminds me of Keats, something about:

Beauty is truth
and truth is beauty
That's all ye know on earth
and all ye need to know of Heaven

[from memory so might not be quite right ...!]

I suspect Keats would know his Aristotle too ...!

Love

I am always delighted when I can learn something new. A day without some kind of learning, without somehow growing in wisdom and understanding, to me is a wasted one.

Paul Joseph - 9/29/2015 5:32 PM . . . Beauty is truth and truth is beauty That's all ye know on earth and all ye need to know of Heaven . . .

Dear Paul. Nothing wrong with your memory and thank you for sharing this quote with us. Here is the whole poem:

Ode on a Grecian Urn
By John Keats

Thou still unravish'd bride of quietness,
       Thou foster-child of silence and slow time,
Sylvan historian, who canst thus express
       A flowery tale more sweetly than our rhyme:
What leaf-fring'd legend haunts about thy shape
       Of deities or mortals, or of both,
               In Tempe or the dales of Arcady?
       What men or gods are these? What maidens loth?
What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape?
               What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?

Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
       Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear'd,
       Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone:
Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave
       Thy song, nor ever can those trees be bare;
               Bold Lover, never, never canst thou kiss,
Though winning near the goal yet, do not grieve;
       She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
               For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!

Ah, happy, happy boughs! that cannot shed
         Your leaves, nor ever bid the Spring adieu;
And, happy melodist, unwearied,
         For ever piping songs for ever new;
More happy love! more happy, happy love!
         For ever warm and still to be enjoy'd,
                For ever panting, and for ever young;
All breathing human passion far above,
         That leaves a heart high-sorrowful and cloy'd,
                A burning forehead, and a parching tongue.

Who are these coming to the sacrifice?
         To what green altar, O mysterious priest,
Lead'st thou that heifer lowing at the skies,
         And all her silken flanks with garlands drest?
What little town by river or sea shore,
         Or mountain-built with peaceful citadel,
                Is emptied of this folk, this pious morn?
And, little town, thy streets for evermore
         Will silent be; and not a soul to tell
                Why thou art desolate, can e'er return.

O Attic shape! Fair attitude! with brede
         Of marble men and maidens overwrought,
With forest branches and the trodden weed;
         Thou, silent form, dost tease us out of thought
As doth eternity: Cold Pastoral!
         When old age shall this generation waste,
                Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say'st:
         ‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty, that is all
                Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.’

Dear Aquarius

Thank you - I must have added the 'of Heaven' as a kind of wish fulfillment ...

Some great lines therein, especially resonant for me is first line in second verse:

Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter.....

Love and light

Hi, Purple Heart. Nice to have you here. I can't answer for where "all the students are", but I'm not sure they all even know about the forum. My experience with the forum is you get out of it what you put into it. If you have questions, please post. It can get lonely doing independent studies and we are here to help if needed, or to offer encouragement. I happen to love forums- they are streamlined and usually easy to follow. I suppose most people love the cluttery and overwhelming look of Facebook. For reading, writing, and studying, I think Forums are great.

Hi, Purple Heart!

I'm a new student, too, and haven't started using the forum yet (other than right now, I guess!), mainly for the same reason you pointed out, that there isn't much going on here! I did come to the forum as a guest before I enrolled to ask current and alumni students about the school, and everyone was really nice and helpful, so I know the few people who *are* here are great!

(Belated) Welcome Purple Heart and Inanna ...

Yes the Board has quiet times, but it is also dependent on those of us posting to make it what it is as we go forward.

Though you could also do a search of past, or older, threads, as there have been very lively debates on fascinating topics before now, and anyone is free to add to them - which will bring them up to date.

Blessings

Ophiucus

Dear Purple Heart and Inanna

I have added both of you to the Student Discussion area of the Board, so that should give you access to more student-type discussions and threads, present and past.

Hope that helps

Good wishes

Hi, Inanna.

Good to see you here. Remember you guys can start threads and ask a question if you'd like us to chime in on something along the way of your studies. You may find a lot of what you need in the student area.

The forum in all honesty used to be booming years ago. But seems other social media is more popular because of the instant communication. I do use many of these apps. I do find myself coming back around also to check up and see if some interesting topics arise. This is a great place to ask questions too. You will most likely gain several sides of knowledge with great points.
Welcome all new students~
