I don't think we have done this question yet ... but forgive me if we have and I missed it ..!

I came across this little reflection in a book called, The Golden Thread (full reference available upon request!). It is credited to Crowfoot, Native American source (or is that First Peoples now? I am not sure of the correct up to date nomenclature, so please forgive that too if incorrect ...)

Anyhow it seemed to me to offer quite a good topic for further reflection, discussion, self-disclosure, analysis, call it what we will .. I often think of this little verse when perplexed by life's vicissitudes and inexplicable difficulties. It helps a little bit.

would be interested to know any other thoughts from friends here about, 'What is Life' for them?

See you at sunset ....

WHAT IS LIFE?

It is the flash of a firefly in the night
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass
and loses itself in the sunset...

It is the essence of my miniature poodle that makes him run and jump and play without even having to wind him up.

Dear Paul – a good question! To me, life is everything and everything is life. God is life and life is God, ever evolving and growing into more and more beautiful and sophisticated lifeforms.

With love - Aquarius

life is clear skied days.

life is warm homes.

life is singing on the street, even if it is raining.

Life is watching the steam cloud from the Fukushima nuclear reactor spread poison among the land.

Life is telling your children to wear their hats and coats to bed because you don't have the money to pay the utility bill and there is no heat in your home.

Life is walking in the rain, not because you want to, but because you have to as there is no other way to get where you are going.

Life isn't just warm fuzzy things. Life often is very ugly.

But what life truly is......how we cope with everything, and how we try to make it better!

"Life is not life.....Life is your attitude towards Life" - Captain Jack Sparrow     (Aquarium.....I couldn't resist, but I fear only you will get the joke....I am terrible and totally ashamed...and I will be ashamed for at least two more seconds!)

With love to all ya's,

 Marty and LuckyLee

life is not fair.

remember that it rains less on you than it does the trees.

a song in your heart helps.

I have found that there is tragedy in life often. Its ok to see tragedy. I have been thinking of sad songs all day.

Life is experiencing and learning, growing and evolving in wisdom and understanding, until one can see that in truth life is extremely fair and just, so much so that it can be hard for us earthlings to grasp. With love – Aquarius

Who on Earth is this Captain?

Does that mean the shame's upon me now?

So be it.

fiction is a good reason to accept tragedy. the tradition of Grecean theater taught us this. It is not shame. It is beauty. (It is better when we know that we can go home with the tragedy behind us.)

Life is an eternal continuum - it goes on and on and on - forever and without interruption.

looking at the inevitability of eternal life. . .

As much as some might disagree there is an attraction to oblivion. To enter it and pass through might be refreshing!

Hi Cause

Hmm yes .. isn't that what is referred to in the idea of, the escape from the Wheel of Becoming?

ie, we journey through all the experiences of every lifetime that ever was, ever will be, and ever shall be, thus attaining, should we permit ourselves, and equally be permitted to, Buddha-hood, Enlightenment: so that we can then choose whether to return or not to this Vale of Tears?

That kind of idea seems to me to be the one that can best make sense of what we experience here ...

Funny then we come to the idea too of compassion, and the belief that Buddha refuses to enter into Heaven until all other sentient beings come to that place also

So a fascinating link to the Crucifixion in the Christian cosmology ... and Easter is almost upon us, whilst yet the Jews are still escaping Egypt in the Passover Pesach festivals ... all too complicated for this bear of small brain ...

And I was thinking only in terms of life as a "force", the "thing" that makes us go.

In a qualified sense, life is where we discover the potentials of love and fear and the life skills necessary to balance them.
