A small selection of non-traditional Christmas Songs from You Tube that are among my favourites, preparing for the solstice time ...

I believe in Father Christmas (Greg Lake, here performing with Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6-PAKOt7sM

ps, I do....

Though I think Greg's younger original version edges it .. [especially the way it opens up]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXCEdrnaFlY

A Spaceman Came Travelling (Chris de Burgh):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmZg7tvGN9o

so much hope and promise ....

Ring out solstice bells (Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull again!):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ShwcA8KkkM

just uplifting and a touch pagan ....

Happy Daze in these dark times

Paul

Hi Marty

I may stand (on one leg ..!) to be corrected but I think Ian Anderson hailed from Blackpool, Lancashire, originally, although moved to Scotland to become custodian of a large part of the Isle of Skye later ... glad you enjoyed the songs ... although Rabbie Burns did write Auld Lang Syne ....

Happy Chanukah too ....

Hi Paul,
I had to wiki this as my reference books are ambiguous. Wiki narrative (if it is right) says from his birth at Dunfermline Fife, family went to Edinburgh and then to Blackpool (Ian being 12 yo).

Be what may, mho is that Jethro Tull is consistently the most underrated band of modern times. The conceptual albums are a joy and the instrumentation is a cornucopia of musical delight! Though, with my tin ear I might be Thick As A Brick......

Shalom,
Marty

Greetings to All!
I am sure none of you have been waiting with bated breath for my annual (or every other year) posting of a most bizarre Xmas song.
This year proved to be a challenge. As I rule out any song that has profanity; is tasteless; and has crass and dubious humour, I unfortunately had to almost rule out the entire Internet as a source.
That disappointment notwithstanding, I did manage to come up with a song.

There is much bad art (in the broadest sense) and many bad songs. However, there are times when there is something that is SO bad that it is actually, really and truly quite good. An example is a flick called
"Plan Nine From Outer Space" which is bad but very good; so good, in fact, that it has obtained cult status. In contrast, "Santa Claus Conquers Mars" is so bad that it IS bad, regardless of Pia Zadora (who only old people would
know anything about).

Our song this year has a metaphysical theme. Thus, I thought it very appropriate. But, I must say that one of three things most likely influenced this song:
1) The group had too many mushrooms.
2) The group had too few mushrooms.
3) The group sampled way to much Kamchatka water, which the average Siberian (maybe even all 8 of them-Siberia is very sparsely populated) would call Vodka, but in Siberian, which would be boaka in Cyrillic, except the first
"a" would look like you had too much of it before you tried to write it. Then again, the need to imbibe vodka is what makes writing in Cyrillic so much fun. (hic!@!) - excuse me!!!!

In conclusion, the song I have chosen is as bad as bad can be and struck me as quite good, perhaps even classic, mescalphysically speaking.

BUT, ya gotta visit Stochastic Music (or as many have told me-Stinkchastic is more appropriate) to hear our delightful and charming little dittie. And, yes, there are penguins in Siberia-SannyClas gave them some magic dust and they flew around the
world!

I Wish You All A Great Holiday and Season (no matter what you call it and how you might and might not celebrate it)
Santa....pleeze bring us.......
PEACE!
Marty

Hmmm ..

"Christmas is coming
the goose is getting fat
please put a penny in the old man's hat

if you haven't got a penny
a farthing will do
if you haven;t got a farthing

God bless you !"

occurred to me, to beat the Christmas rush and engender good cheer, to post a couple of my favourite Yuletide songs ... enjoy, and obviously, other contributions welcomed .. !

I have always loved Christmas and all of it's carols. "Do you hear what I hear" (i think that is what it is titled) still brings a tear to my eye. I am Wiccan, but for many many dark years in my life I dared to hope at Christmas for a miracle....he will bring us goodness and light.....

Make fun of me or not.....but if you want a truly spiritual experience for Christmas, watch my abfab hero of Scrooges (I have done this role since grade school well into college) Alistiare Sim, the quirky Scottish actor who I based my interpretation on. In recent years, his version of "A Christmas Carol" has been judged the best in history......no argument from me....and he has what we all want.......immortality........he lives on every time we watch it!

Been out of this particular fray for what seems like ages - the PCs kept telling me the Board was under repair - wondered if it was something I'd said - then logged on tonight - and the Christmas Song thing - have you picked up over there on all the fuss about

Hallelujah ?

Amazing that such positive sentiments and a song, and the revival of dear old Leonard C should give rise to such furore ... the human being is a strange animal !

All
Having noticed that there were two threads entitled Christmas Songs, I attempted to merge them into one: but what has happened is that the system seems to have transitioned all the older posts into today, making it appear as if they were all posted today, when in fact they predate the PJ RIP of Greg Lake (which I will reply to here to try to make it all seem more sensible ... there seems no wat I can undo my edits ..!!): maybe I need a Cadence and Cascade.

Hahaha, Marty... they did look like they are all stoned out of their minds or tripping. ... however i was 2 or nearly 3 yrs old when they were popular at my parents home. Takes me back..... i do agree. .. under appreciated Jethro Toll. (Pout)

I'm not into Christmas music. ..... it drives me nuts. ... i think it's because it starts too soon and doesn't end till middle of Jan. But. ... a good UK band singing anything even Christmas tunes will be what i play while putting up that tree. Blah! Not into it at all this year. It's personal. ... hubby's mother died on the eve and is very hard on the family. I used to be able to channel her, but i think she may have returned. ... or is just busy being everywhere!

Merry Christmas! Much love to all!

On a personal note,  i have decided to move to Pallitive care. Things got real lately. .. heart giving out, blood sugar going wacky, as if i didn't already have enough on my plate.  i do nibble on that plate all day long. ... then feed my poochies, cause i cannot eat for diddles. Haha!

i do love the faces of those loved ones when they get something i knew they would absolutely love!

We have to admit that most of us here know exactly what people want and need. .. even before they did! Hehe

Flux me ... am I reading correctly 'palliative care' ? Oh me or my oh no ... somewhere I read a quote from, I think, Mohammed where it is said,

'Die before ye die'

.... but not too soon we hope ....

(Tull again, '... The song ends too soon for us all ...' from, 'Life's a long song')

Then again, the Japanese proverb from whence Ian Fleming derived the title of his Bond novel:

'You only live twice:
Once when you are born, and once when you look Death in the face'

Hugz & love ever in this Battle of Evermore (....Led Zep....)

Lol.. Pallitive care is assistance for help in my chronic illnesses that are permanent until i shift to a different form. They are a team of people who help in the psychological and psysiological counseling and communication to my current physicians that this is serious and not to play around. Most physicians blow off everyone till it becomes irate, or death. It's not Hospice! Although Pallitive care is used in hospice a lot is not in my case. They will fight for my rights to disability help, which I'm denied because i won't divorce my husband.

While after tomorrow i will kick into Christmas mode. .... I will share this song though. ... https://youtu.be/MXnTbmPxv5g

From the year i graduated highschool! 1984.... Kim Mitchell, go for a soda! Lol

Hello all you Santas and Mrs or Miss or Mizz Clauses! And, all pronouned and connouned perpeoples:
In some thread of the fabric that is UMS discussion at its finest I proudly post an annual Christmas song for the edification and gratification of all of you (and also to annoy my dear friend of the zodiac sign-I hope you lurk and that I might f-f-f-ferret you out to paraphrase Anthony Blanche).
Most of the bizarre and crazy songs this go-round contained profanity and not clever-in-the-least mockery of the Xmas spirit.....soooooooo......I searched for yet another version of one of the most bizarre songs played at Yuletide and, ah hah; I found it! If you old-timers recall, my bizarre song is "O Come O Come Emmanuel" and I have posted several versions in the past as part of the acashic record, though I never got a thin penny. Now, here is another rendition for your enjoyment, more or less, mostly less.....but the rendition suits my mood. Thus, while others lament and moan and whimper about what has happened and/or didn't happen, I, my friends, intend to ransom Israel! (ransom, btw, means to deliver from slavery in the context of the song....ya gotta get biblical to understand this stuff).

Here we go, and Aqwah, you don't know what you are missing!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgNNl-5b-5A

Merry C-day and Happy H-8days, and Happy K-7days and any other day or days you celebrate with PEACE,
Marty Elf

Marty and everyone.... love the music, hate the screamo of it. .... sounds like they were puking while attempting to sing. ... but the talent of music was definitely there. Now if they were to pull in a female singer with strong vocals. ... they would expand..... so sad George passed on Christmas. He actually did earn that exclamation mark in Wham! as Deadpool quoted!

Love the inside kicks in your words. ... lurking is probable. ... hahaha

So glad the Holidays are over as i never even found time to put up a tree. ... but. ... my hubby and i took a mini vacation and rented an A-frame cabin with a fire place and hot tub. We didn't leave till it was time to go home for Christmas eve. We cooked filet mignon over the fire in the fire place..... (Bad idea) made my beautiful steak taste like a burnt down house. .... lol.... next time were bringing charcoal. I don't even need to cook my steak. ... I'll eat it raw. Yummmm. I actually like raw potato too. Yeah. ... i was born weird.

Thank you to everyone who posted beautiful songs and gave holiday Blessings. It worked for the most part. ... only minor stuff. My #3 grandbaby got his first two stitches.... he fell into a coffee table and busted his lip open. Poor fella!

Christmas eve was horrible but passed quickly. ... my husband's side of family has some extreme judgemental idiots who showed horrible immaturity. I walked away and was the better person, but we all know that deep down it hurts. However we know religious ftards will think all us non-religious are horrible. My side of the family was very loving and non judgemental and we laughed and had a great time. .... ohhhh when will people wake up and stop judging people for shhht they have no idea about?

But. ... that's another thread. .... the false judgement of others. ... lol. Naw.... i let it go and never put more though into it. Hahaha

Wrapping up this 2016 and I'm looking forward to 2017..... big time!

HiHoHoHo All Santa Selebrators:
My choice of songs was not serendipitous; Ophi spots one reason-the coincidence of Xmas and Hannukah. But, I also knew that Baroque Hussien Ala Bama would betray Israel, an extremely prejudiced and biased move on his part. Gotta say, there are many who are glad he is going....going...gone, regardless of what buffonery may occur at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW afterwards.

Peace and Yule Log's smoke wafting up your chimneys, Dance the Hora and Light the Menorah,
