Traditional Definition: The term metaphysical is derived from the Greek word meta ta physika, originally referring to the philosophical writings of Aristotle found "after the chapters" on physics, or the hard sciences (physical science, mathematics, music, etc.) in the original early works. In traditional terms, it deals with philosophical concepts that deal with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as the nature of being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space. Commonly, these philosophic areas are described within the fields of ontology, cosmology, and epistemology. Later Latin scholars began to read the term as a field of enquiry into “sciences beyond the world of nature,” or as “fields of inquiry into the immaterial after grounding in the material.” It is in this remodeled sense that Contemporary Metaphysics is molded today. Contemporary Definition: Metaphysics may be described as a spiritual / philosophical approach of a non-empirical character into the nature of human existence. As such, it includes an overlapping and diverse number of fields of enquiry. Its central precepts draw on both Eastern and Western religious and metaphysical traditions and incorporates influences from holistic and self-help therapies, parapsychology, consciousness research, and quantum physics. From a religious perspective, Contemporary Metaphysics follows a universalistic approach to spirituality based on various traditions that are non-dogmatic, inclusive and pluralistic. Mind, Body, and Spirit are seen as interrelated and intrinsically connected with each other. These are, in turn, connected to a belief in a type of Divine monism and cosmological unity undergirding the universe. .
