Subject: Theosophy/Madame Blavatsky

I am wondering if anyone has studied Theosophy and what your thoughts are about it. Madame Blavatsky is also another topic I am wondering about. Does anyone agree with her ideas?

Also, I am looking for Metaphysical discussion meetings in my area. I live in Syracuse NY. Anyone have any ideas?

I wasn't able to find any theosophical groups in Syracuse. There are a couple of meeting places in NYC and one in the Hudson Valley about three hours north of NY - Pumpkin Hollow Farm. Helena Blavatsky had one of those incredible minds that could do mountains of research and find the connections between many different perspectives. One can be of any religion or none to share in theosophical study groups, which teach tolerance and open-mindedness for the many religious/philosophical traditions.

Three chief objects:
1. Brotherhood of man, without distinction of race, colour, religion, or social position
2. The serious study of the ancient world-religions for purposes of comparison and the selection therefrom of universal ethics
3. The study and development of the latent divine powers in man
- from The Key to Theosophy, by H. P. Blavatsky, 1889

Hi Indi and Trace:
It is late on the east coast of the USA so I can't write much (or as much as I would like to)....
Her writings are studied by the Rosicrucians.
She was influential in the creation of many Victorian "occult" societies which carried over to the USA.
She was influential to a movement that lead to a 'redesign" of the Tarot....the "Rider" deck...see A.E. Waite and "the Golden Dawn"
She was partially responsible for the antagonism between Harry Houdini (the magician) and Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle (the creator of Sherlock Holmes).
Perversely, she was influential in the German occult societies of the late 30's, one of which, the Thule Society splintered into another, called the Orden Orientalis(spelling?).
This society was partially responsible for the rise of Hitler, and the use of the swastika as a symbol of the National Socialist Party.
Finally, she wrote "Isis Unveiled" which has significant meaning for me, and me alone.
Quite a remarkable woman! Particularly since her name was Hahn, yet she was born in Russia. That ain't a Russian name.

Peace and Love,
Marty, and chilly cats
